  • Hill Climb program description (Nov 30, 2006) - New dimension to TER road racing

Looking back on the participation in TER road racing this past year, we have decided to try a different angle that may capture the interest of a larger number of TER teammates.

    What will it be?

Training and racing oriented to a series of at least 3 hillclimb bike races: April, Lookout Mt. Hillclimb (Golden); May, Ironhorse classic (Durango); July, Mt. Evans Hillclimb. (With the possibility of including other races, depending on what races are held in 2007 and what the group interest is.)

    What won’t it be?

Due to a lack of sufficient interest on behalf of last year’s TER members, we have decided that we won’t be organizing training and racing typical to most road racing teams in 2007—ie prep for crits, road races, etc. and possible weekly racing. HOWEVER, if anyone is interested in trying to organize such an effort, please feel free! This effort would supplement the new dimension of TER and not conflict in any way. Please contact Ted Benning if you are interested. (And if you are simply interested in this kind of racing, but not in leading a TER effort, go to the ACA website for a listing of possible teams to join.)

    What will the structure be?

Robin Waterman will organize weekly training rides in the Denver/Morrison/Golden area, with one ride each weekend and one ride during the week. The weekday ride will focus on interval training/hill repeats and the weekend ride will focus on long climbs. This training will begin after the off-season training has ended. Waterman will also organize team participation in each of the races, including carpooling and team warm-ups. (Anyone interested in joining Waterman in this role is very welcome! Especially if you would want to lead training rides in a different geographical area.)

New Programs for different interests and abilities!!

New Hill Climb Series in TER:

    What?

    • TER will be organizing a Hill Climb (HC) series that will include entering your choice of 3 out of 4 Hill Climb bike races in Colorado: Lookout Mt. HC; Ironhorse Classic; Mike Horgan HC; and the Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans HC.
    • We will assign points for each finisher and recognize the top female and male finishers at the end of the season!
    Training and fun:
    • At a TBD date in the Spring, we will begin to meet each weekend for a training ride. We will rotate between several different beautiful hill climb routes, offering options for beginner and advanced riders. The goal will be that we all get in a good workout, while also staying “together” and “enjoying” ourselves (within whatever definition of that word you choose).
    Racing:
    • We will organize ourselves so that we support each other at the races and feel a sense of being a part of a team—TER!
    Triathlons in TER:
    What?
Much of this new TER program has not yet been developed, but we are planning to offer some or all of the following:
    • Workshops with information and training tips.
    • Follow-up support (ie, tips, advice) re training
    • Possible weekly track workouts
    • Information about training opportunities with other Triathlon groups—and organizing TER participation at these training opportunities.
    • TER organized training opportunities—maybe even weekly, depending on interest and volunteer support
    • Choosing 2-3 triathlons that TER members train for and enter together (ie, including a sprint and an olympic-distance and maybe a half-iron)

    Interested???

We hope so!!! Join TER! - but hurry . . if you join before December 8, you become eligible for the TER Rider Incentive Program!

For further information contact Robin Waterman (HC series) and Kevin Glodova (Triathlons).
