Team Evergreen Racing Weekly News - Thursday April 26th, 2007

Team News      (email contact Ted Benning)

  • Welcome to the TER weekly news.  This email news goes out to all team members early Thursday mornings.

Hill Climb / Training Rides       (email contact Robin Waterman)

  • Hill Climb / Training Ride - Saturday, April 26.   (directions)

  • Saturday Training ride - We will rally at Morrison/Rooney Rd, ready to discuss the route and strategy by 9:00am.

  • HC Route and Strategy:

    • Warm-up: Ride the bike path over to where it intersects with Ken Carl (approx. 30 minutes). We will ride at an easy pace, mostly staying together i.e., Each rider can ride his/her own warm-up pace and then wait at intersections, if necessary).

    • Ride to the school at the top of High Grade: From this point, all riders can ride as hard, or easy, as they want. When the fastest riders get to the schoolhouse, they should ride back to where they see other TER riders, and circle back to the top with them. The goal will be that all participants re-group at the top together, to eat and drink and put on any extra clothing.

    • Ride back to Morrison: We will all start to head back together, but will likely break into smaller groups. We will make an effort, however, to not "drop" anyone—i.e., not leaving anyone to ride back alone. The goal/desire would be that everyone has at least one or two other people to ride back with, even if that means waiting at intersections for a minute or two.

  • NOTE: People of all levels have been encouraged to join in on the TER Hill Climbing training. Training rides are intended to be an opportunity for everyone to get in a good workout - for sure - but they should also be fun and an experience of being part of our team. So, even as we are learning how to accomplish this with such disparate levels of riders, I ask that we all make an effort to find ways that we can "ride together" while also having each TER rider experience getting a "good training workout" in. Please, I welcome comments and feedback in relation to an approach that helps us accomplish these shared goals.

  • Mid-week training ride: WEDNESDAYS, 5:30-6:30pm - NOTE: Due to requests from the majority, the mid-week training rides will be on Wednesday evenings from now on, starting Wed. May 2.

  • Optional warm-up: Rally at the Morrison/Rooney Rd spot, riding over to Lookout by 4:45p.

  • Training Route and strategy:

    • Starting promptly at 5:30, ride to the top of Lookout Mt, starting at the pillars. You can ride this as a TT or in a series of long or short intervals.

    • Re-group at the top with those who are close to you.

    • Ride on to the top of Boetcher Mansion, pushing the up-hills, and then down to where the road meets with Lookout Mt. road.

    • Those who started in Morrison head back to Morrison from there.

    • Those who started at the pillars, head back the way they came, stopping at the entrance to Boetcher Mansion to meet up with any other TER riders. At this point, put on any extra layers and descend at your own pace.
