Team Evergreen Racing Weekly News - Thursday April 10th, 2008

Team News      (email contact Kevin Skruch)

  • Welcome to the TER weekly news.  This email news goes out to all team members early Thursday mornings.

  • TER is Open for new members - This email was sent to all current team members, as well as all active members of the Team Evergreen Bicycle Club email list that have indicated they would like to receive race team news.  If you want to change your preferences so that you don't receive this email each week, please click the link at the bottom of this email that says "preferences" and make the appropriate adjustments.

Membership Info      (email contact René Pirolt)

  • Membership - If you are interested in learning more about the race team, please contact René.

  • Team Clothing - team members are picking up their 2008 TER kits at Green Mountain Sports. If you haven’t already, please do so ASAP.

If you have any questions regarding kits or team clothing, please contact Cory Kramer.

Mid-Week Training       ( email contact Mike McKenna)

  • Mid-week Hill Climb Training Rides - Wednesday hill climb training, 5pm ride at Lookout Mountain. This will be an informal spring start to the HC rides. We will be on the hill, so if you can not come until later, you will find us. These rides are be weather permitting. If you have questions feel free to contact Brian France cbfrance1@yahoo.com.

  • Check the TER website for last minute updates on any training rides.

Off-season Training       ( email contact Mike McKenna)

  • Saturday Training ride - START TIME - 10:00 AM. Gather at C-470 and Rooney Rd. (across from the Conoco. Please arrive early enough to be ready to ride at 10:00 sharp, ~50 miles, a little over 3 hours.  All ride leaders will be racing, so the training ride will be a "show and go" - meaning that anyone who wants to can show up (at the usual meeting location at Morrison and W-470) and ride with whoever else may also show up, making up their own route decisions.

  • Sunday training ride - Big Hill Climb (and team recruitment, too)!  We will join the TE Club on their ride on Sunday, as it is scheduled to be a ride from Bergen Park to Central City.  For those training for the Ironhorse and Mt Evans, this will be great endurance and HC training! So, for those who are interested, we will be starting the TER training ride from our usual spot in Morrison, meeting there at 8:30, starting to ride no later than 8:45. We will ride up the canyon and up Kerr Gulch and join the TE club ride there. (Could be a 5-hr ride) Great endurance and HC training! Please email Robin (robin.waterman@gmail.com) if you plan to start in Morrison.

Road Racing      ( email contact Robin Waterman)

  • It's a BIG weekend!

    Saturday: Let's race!
We would like to encourage TER members to race a short Time Trial (TT) in Boulder. Come join a number of TER teammates and race the Haystack TT.

Please contact Michael Raber ASAP if you are interested in participating in the Haystack or the Rabbit Mt TT on Sunday May, 4 as we need to register as a team.

    Road Races (planning ahead!)

  • Deer Trail Road Race - As part of TER's increased emphasis on road racing, we are encouraging participation in the deer trail road race on April 26th. A link to registration and information about the race can be found here:  Some categories such as SM4 and SM35+ 4 fill up quick so if you fall into these categories register soon or you'll be stuck in the overflow group. Mike McKenna has done this race twice and will be the TER point of contact for any additional information.

  • Cherry Creek Time Trial - the first race in the series was a wet one, glad to get that one our of the way.  TER had the 4th largest number of racers at the first race.

  • Lookout Mt RR (Sat. May 3):
Sign up now! Go to the ACA website for more details.

  • Ironhorse Race - race is sold out.

Physical Conditioning and Coaching       ( email contact David Newcomer)

  • Rethinking Lactate Threshold - The concepts surrounding lactic acid and lactate threshold and their interaction within our muscle cells are being turned on their heads. So many of the long held beliefs about muscle fatigue and soreness are being replaced and re-defined today.

Though I’ve been reading many of the same articles about the subject, I find that David Warden of Tri-Talk.com does an excellent job of summarizing how the research can be synthesized and applied. This week I’d like to refer you to Episode 60 of the Tri-Talk pod cast (available direct on David’s site, www.tri-talk.com, or on iTunes). You can also find the transcript on the site’s Tri-Talk Blog page.

The pod cast begins with some great information regarding the Gluteus Medius as well – an important and often neglected muscle for runners and cyclists.

    Enjoy,  David

  • THE BURN - Racers, The cat has officially been let out of the bag. The Burn is set for May 31st 2008. My initial guess is that we will max out our participation for 2008, so if you know of anyone that wants to race the event, please encourage them to register early. Cyclo-Core is providing a 4 week training plan, so that is some extra incentive to register early. We are going to need lots of volunteers for this event to keep our participants safe and content. If you would like to sign up for volunteering please email Chris Brockmeier at brockmei@comcast.net. No need to be a team member to volunteer!

There is a whole bunch of useful information about the race and logistics on the website as well as links to registration. www.teamevergreenracing.com

Thanks for all your support!    Chris Brockmeier.    Register CLICK HERE

  • ALL MOUNTAIN BIKE RACERS - I know there is still some spring riding ahead for you skiers, but we need to start thinking about summer race plans and schedules so we can begin soliciting commitments for MTB race teams for the 2008 Series at Winter Park and Mountain States Cup. Here are the schedules: (These are good to bookmark) Winter Park Series    Mountain States Cup.   Let's maintain our dominance at Winter Park and move up even higher at MSC! If you have any questions, please contact Ted Benning.
