Saturday Training
ride -
New Time is 9:00 a.m. Gather at C-470 and Rooney Rd. (Across
from Conoco. Please arrive early enough to be ready to ride at
9:00 sharp.) Ride Up Bear Creek Road to Kerr Gulch Road to
Bergen Park and up Squaw Pass. Over 50 miles. 4+ hours. Ride leader
Randi Polidori.
-
Road closure
- be aware there will be construction on the 1.3 mile bike path
from Kermit's to Hidden Valley along the south side of I-70.
Note from Clear Creek's Tim Allen on 5/6/08:
The work we are
going to do on the trail from Kermit's to Hidden Valley is going
to be extensive. We have to demo several parts of the paved
trail to perform root mitigation before we can overlay. There is
no way in many locations that an alternate trail can be provided
in the existing width. Besides, our tandem axle dump trucks will
have to back for long distances, which is difficult in itself,
and for safety reasons I won’t make them have to look out for
bicyclists while doing so. We have to run a tight schedule to
complete the work promptly for more reasons than your wanting to
use the trail, so the project will be expedited.
I am asking for the bicycle community’s cooperation. In the
interest of safety and for my operations efficiency, we need you
to plan your rides so as to not use that portion of the trail
system for the next several weeks. Public use of the facility
during construction will be prohibited.

Ride for the
Pass -
Hello all TER Hill Climbers, I have just found out about a great
and fun race that would also be a great prep race for the
Ironhorse. There is a HC race up the first 10 miles of
Independence Pass on Sat. May 17. It is a fundraiser to continue
to revitalize vegetation on Independence Pass. So, if anyone
else is interested, let me know, as I would also need for us to
carpool together. I could help arrange our carpooling and
lodging ,for those interested. Could be a lot of fun!!! Robin
-
Teva Mountain
Games - a
road race and mountain race coming up in Vail that ought to be
on your radar screen. The races take place the second weekend in
June and will fill early.
Uphill Time
Trial Road Race
on Sunday, June 8th: Competitors of all ages and abilities will
be able to race on the original Hill Climb course ridden by
legendary riders such as Greg Lemond and Bernard Hinault back in
the late 1980's. The course record of 26:33 still belongs to
Giro d'Italia champion Andy Hampsten, set during the 1987 Coors
Classic. Floyd Landis and Ned Overend battled on this course
just last year. All participants will receive an athlete bag
with cool Teva Mountain Games swag (no kidding, the best swag
bag you will see all year!). Race entry is $30.
Details: The race starts in Vail Village, just east of the
covered bridge. Time is 10:30 AM, but your start time will
likely be later, as racers go off every 15 seconds or so. You
should plan to check in between 8 and 10 am. Expect race times
from 35 minutes to an hour. Go to
www.tevamountaingames.com to
sign up. Randie Polidori has graciously offered bed or
floor space in her Vail condo to racers for Saturday evening on
a first come, first served basis. She will also host a
lunch/afternoon feed if there is sufficient interest. Please
email at the above address if you are interested in either a
place to crash on Saturday or in dining with your mates on
Sunday.
Mountain
Bike Cross Country Race
on Saturday, June 7th: This is a spectator-friendly circuit race
that comes in and out of Vail Village at the Golden Peak base
area, so you can bring friends and family to cheer you on. There
is also a separate, special kids’ race course if the youngest
racers in your family are interested in getting muddy. Each lap
of the Teva course is 7 miles long. Juniors and beginners ride 1
lap, sport racers 2 laps, experts and pros 3 laps. Race start
times: 10:30am ( Juniors / Kids Elite ), 12:00pm (Expert and Pro
Divisions), 4:00pm (Sport, Beginner & 35+ Divisions). Stick
around after the race for a BBQ at 6pm in the Mud Village at the
base of Golden Peak.
So we can coordinate all of TER’s racers at this event, please
send an email to me if you plan to race:
Will.allen@state.co.us.

THE BURN
- Racers, The cat has officially been let out of the bag. The
Burn is set for May 31st. My initial guess is that we will
max out our participation for this race, so if you know of anyone
that wants to race the event, please encourage them to register
early. Cyclo-Core is providing a 4 week training plan, so that
is some extra incentive to register early. We are going to need
lots of volunteers for this event to keep our participants safe
and content. If you would like to sign up for volunteering
please email
Chris Brockmeier. No need
to be a team member to volunteer!
There is a
whole bunch of useful information about the race and logistics
on the website as well as links to registration.

Thanks for all
your support! Chris Brockmeier.

with the BMA - Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance) Tuesday night
girls only rides in the Boulder area. These rides are open to
all levels and are "no drop" rides that incorporate ride leaders
and sweepers.

Volunteer
(
email contact Chris Brockmeier) |

-
Your
responsibility
- Every TER member is expected to contribute time in
accomplishing the goals of the team and take leadership
roles or, as a minimum, assist the team with one (1) of
various TE or TER activities such as helping out with our
road and / or mountain bike races, The Triple Bypass, lead
training rides, etc.

TER
Racers, We are in need of volunteers for the Burn.
(Please
forward to anyone that might be able to help or might know
someone that might be able to volunteer.)
Racers: If you
signed up to volunteer for the race please verify your position
Here.
Current Status:
Marshals
11
of 17 ….WE NEED MORE!!! We cannot run the race if this does not
get filled!
Sweepers: 0
of 2. Want to ride the course, but don’t want to wake up Early.
This is your chance. Must be Capable Mountain Biker. 13 and 23
mile courses respectively.
We are in need
of volunteers for the Burn. We currently don’t have any where
near the numbers of volunteers to pull this off. We are in need
of at least 16 marshals for the course. Yes it is a lot, but the
course covers 50 acres, with multiple entrance and exit points.
The Race is on May 31st. This is our event, put on by us, so it
would look a bit foolish to not be able to staff it. As part of
your agreement with the team and an eligibility factor to the
Racer Incentive Program you are to help out the team by
volunteering some time to accomplishing the team’s goals. This
would be an ideal event to volunteer for.
There are 4
volunteer positions of which we need multiple people for:
Marshal, Venue Setup, Venue Takedown, and Registration.
Marshals are in
high demand. You need to be able to ride via mountain bike to
the position you are to marshal. If you are a marshal I would
like you in position no later than 9.a.m. That means you need to
be ready to embark on the course no later than 8:30a.m. You will
be on course until all of the racers for that course are
finished. So plan being on the course for a few hours.
Venue Setup
will occur the Friday proceeding and the morning of the race.
More instructions later.
Venue Takedown
will begin as soon as the racers finish. This would be a good
option if you would like to race the event.
Registration:
Another good option if you would like to race.
Much
Thanks,
Chris Brockmeier
